Australians like state vs state rivalry. There's even a Wikipedia article dedicated to the topic! What can we say? We like a bit of competition... It keeps us young; virile; interesting... or just look like a bunch of idiots! The great divide between South Australians and Victorians is more than mere kilometres and it goes back a long time. Evidently, it's mostly based on AFL; like who's poached who for which team but it seems it's alive and well in other sports: take Polo for instance and even Lawn Bowls! And who can ever forget that time when Melbourne "stole" the Formula1 One Grand Prix?
All in good fun. No harm intended. But still... try telling your RADeladian friends and family that you're moving to SMELLbourne! Responses range from "poor you" (cf. traffic, pollution, too big, over-developed love of sport) to "lucky you" (cf. shopping, coffee, infrastructure, culture).
So it's been 100 days. And apparently the first 100 days count... It's where the government gets to boast of their successes. I can't think of any "successes" we can boast of but I can list off blessings God has bestowed... The kids are settled at their new school. The husband is settle in his new job. We are enjoying a new lifestyle. Both kids have had their 2014 birthdays and each had enough friends to invite to their parties! And Husbando and I clicked over 10 years of wedded bliss. It's been a strange mix of monumental change and the mundane. Life happens whether we're ready or not and as the "new normal" descends for us we are enjoying glimpses of familiarity. Strangers are becoming acquaintances and acquaintances are becoming friends.
But for the best part of life, I barely notice that we're aliens. Well, maybe I've noticed a few differences (read: don't get me started)... traffic continues to baffle and exasperate, the dawn of football season has been nothing short of irritating and the language barrier never fails to amuse me... who knew the consequence of the Tower of Babel would extend this far?
But we're grateful. Even when I doubted, He was faithful. Ever leading. Gentle. Strong. True.
